Who ARE those people? – Story Behind the Music Video

Angela Josephine recording official music video, Got You On My Mind

If you’ve watched my recent music video “Got You On My Mind” you may be wondering about the ghostly images that appear throughout the video.  You are being introduced to my family though 8mm vintage footage taken throughout the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s.  The film creds for footage include my mother Loretta and my father Tony as they were often behind the lens filming each other and their 6 children.  The video itself was shot at Wilson Antiques – Downtown by the great guys at The Treefort Collective.  As for the 8mm footage…

Specifically be on the lookout for:

1)   THAT ROCK GODDESS:   My 8 year-old self makes an appearance right out of the gate.

2)   THAT HOT MAMMA:  My mom could rock a vintage dress like no other all whilst managing a home and changing diapers.  Look for her looking fabulous toward the end of the video while she bounces a baby (my big sister Gina).  She makes a couple other appearances, but this is my favorite shot of her.

3)   THAT SKIRT CHASER:  Dad was very proud of his kids and loved his family, so he wasn’t really a skirt chaser… except, of course, my mother’s.  (This explains the 6 kids).  Look for him racing me down the beach in a canteen shot and another of him waving hello next to the telescope he used to teach me the night sky.

4)   THAT RAG DOLL: This is my sister Donna and it’s bittersweet as we lost her to cancer a few years back.  Look for her all “dolled” up for Halloween in a costume made by mom.  Brother Tony is right behind her in the black hood.

5)   THAT MACK THE KNIFE:  This is really my Grandpa Carmello.  He passed on shortly after I was born, but for some reason I grew up with an image of him as an Italian gangster.  Look for him lighting a cigarette right before that shot of my dad chasing me.

6)   THAT GIRL IN THE PINK BIKINI:  With 5 older brothers and sisters, I am an aunt to many and shared a childhood with some of my nieces and nephews.  Look for my niece Maria in a pink bikini and immediately to her right is my nephew, her brother Donald.

7)   THOSE ITALIANS:  From an early age, my mother’s Italian heritage and the 4 aunts who lived in “Jersey” fascinated me.  Look for a framed vintage photo of the family circa 1931.

8)   THAT BALD MAN:  My Dad’s father and he was a tough Belgian.  Look for him reflected in a barrister bookcase.

9)   THAT DANCING GIRL:  Her name is Loretta (Another Loretta – not my mom) and she is a Jersey relative whom I met for the first time a few years ago when I did a concert in Holmdel.

10) THAT SAILOR BOY:   A cousin on my Dad’s side.

Would love to hear your thoughts and stories!

WORTH MENTIONING: Although the video is  meant to be universal – about a family, not necessarily mine – I want to recognize two of my siblings that are not shown. Well, my brother Carmen makes a fleeting appearance, but you might miss him otherwise.  Look for him bundled up for winter next to my mom bouncing… wait for it… a baby in a snowsuit (sister Gina again). My sister Theresa does not appear.  This is totally unintentional.  My sisters have been my biggest supporters!  I’m so proud of them… Gina is a doctor and Theresa captains boats for the Lake Superior Shipwreck Tours in Munising.  (And she drives a motorcycle… and that is so cool!)

  1. I absolutly love these stories about the people in your video. I am learning more and more about Matts family and this is very heart warming. 😀

  2. I was so happy to see the video. I thought I got a glimpse of my mom in it, and now I’m sure it was her since you mentioned it. Mom would have been so proud of you! Love you!

  3. Love seeing our family memories in the video. Makes my heart soar! That’s okay if I didn’t make an appearance. I was always told I was adopted anywho!
