Compassion Sunday Weekend!
At the end of the week, I’ll be headed to Ontario, WI to do a Saturday concert and Sunday of special music at Pisgah Wesleyan Church. I’ll be reconnecting with my friend Mark whom I met in 2005 on a trip to Peru with Compassion International. Together we worked on building classrooms, leading worship and dishing out meals for hundreds of kids. Our hearts broke with the great need we saw and mended with the hope we witnessed in the faces of children like Juan, a boy I taught to play mountain dulcimer while sitting on the dusty, oven-like patio of the project. Juan is a brilliant child who otherwise might have been peddling candy on the streets or even worse. Instead he is learning that he was made for greater things. Juan is the face of hope and change in his village thanks to the support of someone like you and me. Next weekend, we hope to encourage other people to find their Juan… to make a difference in the life of a child. You can too! Sponsor a child today!

I recorded this song on a stunningly beautiful November day here in Northern Michigan. At the beginning, I comment that the more difficult days of winter will come too soon and how that is like life. Only two weeks later, my sister lost her battle with cancer. My father-in-law was diagnosed with bone cancer and had but a few short months. And my 9 year old niece is terminally ill.
This song is a tribute to them... to life... to trusting in God through the difficult seasons of life. While we may not understand the purpose of suffering, we can trust that there is a purpose beyond our comprehension.
My father-in law is now in the final stages of cancer. This has been a difficult season, but we are thankful to be in a position to help our loved ones and there have been many instances of God’s grace through this time of suffering. My husband and I appreciate all your support and words of encouragement.

Mid-West singer/songwriter ANGELA JOSEPHINE is quizzed about her life and art by Tony Cummings.
Angela Josephine is an American singer, songwriter, artist and poet who has caught the ear of Cross Rhythms. Her two independent album have brought forth fulsome praise. About 'Restful Sense Of Urgency' (2004), Cross Rhythms wrote, "Angela Josephine shows herself to be a poetic songwriter able to pen songs that get under the shield of the post-modern muse with power and poignancy," while about her 'Grace Exhaled' (2006) CD CR wrote of Angela Josephine's music "shining with heart-baring honesty." With such impressive creative achievement, an interview with the Traverse City, Michigan singer/songwriter seemed overdue. Here are Angela Josephine's answer to my questions.
The Spirit of Motherhood Opening that was to be held in Overland Park, Kansas on September 21st, 2006 is being rescheduled due to a delay in printing the books. Angela will travel to Kansas to perform at a later date! Please keep checking back for information or visit www.spiritofmotherhood.com

IN CONCERT - THE GIRL WITH KALEIDOSCOPE EYES
By Mark Clark
On Holy Saturday, April 15, 2006 I had the pleasure of experiencing singer/songwriter Angela Josephine in concert. The event was sponsored jointly by the Ypsilanti based Evangelical Friends and Living Water Community Churches. The concert was held in one of those old white-washed churches you see scattered across the rural countryside. The Evangelical Friends Church had long outgrown this building, built a new sanctuary and had turned this one into a sort of coffee house. On the stage there was a backdrop of a large Celtic cross, some of Angelas artwork, a large vase with at least two dozen pristine white roses and several instruments that gave the impression of a full band. But Angela, a one-woman band, would use each of them over the course of the evening.
STYLE: MOR / Soft Pop
RATING 10

There are few things more worrying for the record reviewer than to be confronted with the second album by an artist when you went overboard about its predecessor and a bit of your rave review has been quoted in the artist's press material. What do you say to your colleagues or indeed the artist herself if the new album is a stiff? So it's with some relief that I can report that this folk roots singer from America's Mid West now delivers an album which completely fulfils the potential of her 'A Restful Sense Of Urgency' set.
Angela Josephine - Grace Exhaled is a work of art, literally! She paints a picture of pop variance with high production standards. She is a must listen in the Indie Christian realm and charting near the Top 10 of Uncle Samoo's Zoo Radio show as we speak!

She had the pleasure of playing guitar as part of the Hearts of Worship Praise Team and met a lot of great people. She's developed a certain fondness for something called the Grand Pecan Ball - she and about 3000 other women. She's hoping to develop a fondness for exercise very soon.
In the meantime, she heads into the studio in Traverse City this weekend to record BGV's for Tom Frye's upcoming album that is being produced by Michael Aukofer. Tom is an independent artist from Indiana. www.tomefrye.net
By Wednesday, she'll be on her way to Nashville to record the single "The Spirit of Motherhood" to be included in a book by Kansas City photographer Misty Woodward. Angela will be working with producer John Pisciotta of Paradiso Music. John produced Angela's second album, Grace Exhaled.

MOTHER'S DAY GIFT AND A WAY TO HELP!
If you haven’t heard, Angela is involved in a great new project with photographer Misty Woodward from Kansas. A coffee table book of Misty’s images of pregnancy will be coming out in September and with it a special single release by Angela entitled “The Spirit of Motherhood”. The hope is that this project will open up a whole new appreciation for the beauty of pregnancy and an awareness of the sacredness of life. You can be involved and they need your help! Anyone who donates a minimum of $20 to this project will be mentioned on a dedication of thanks page in “The Spirit of Motherhood” book. You can choose to donate in honor of someone special and with Mother’s Day around the corner, this could be a meaningful way to share your appreciation for a mother or friend. Angela and Misty are using these donations to offset out of pocket initial costs of photography, publishing and CD production and manufacturing. Any funds left after expenses are met will be donated to The Kansas City Chiefs Offensive Line First Downs for Down Syndrome. Also, 25% of the sale of each book will be donated to this charity.
If you are donating $20 or more, please be sure to include the name of the person you would like printed in the book. You will be prompted to fill in the name on the 2nd screen of the PayPal process. Donations are not tax deductible at this time. Donations will be accepted through the month of July. Thanks for your support!

GRACE EXHALED PRESS RELEASE
Michigan Musician and Poet Angela Josephine Releases Nashville Produced CD; Single Climbing Indie Charts
The conviction of a preacher collides with the spirit of an artist in the music of Angela Josephine. 'Grace Exhaled,' her second CD, was produced in Nashville and showcases her talents on hammered dulcimer, as well as guitar and piano.
Traverse City, MI (Aug 17, 2005) -- Angela Josephine has come a long way from writing and producing songs in her basement.
The Traverse City-based singer-songwriter's latest CD, “Grace Exhaled,” is being released Aug. 27 and will be launched at a party hosted by House of Hope. The album was produced in Nashville and features talents including John Pisciotta (Amy Grant, Pete Cetera), Wade Jaynes (dcTalk, Sheryl Crow) and Chris Omartian (Rebecca St. James).
“Going to Nashville was a great experience,” Josephine said. “Working with a team of people made my project take on a depth that I couldn't have gotten on my own. My producer, John Pisciotta, is very gifted at putting that kind of team together. I feel that the best of my art was brought forward in a way that added dimension without sacrificing what is uniquely me.”
“Grace Exhaled” explores new territory for Josephine, showcasing diverse instrumentation like mountain and hammered dulcimers along with her customary guitar and piano tunes. Josephine's music has always defied the molds of traditional Christian pop, and her new album is no different as she explores a variety of genres, including folk, rock, contemplative piano tunes and spoken-word poetry. The first single to be released, Mind Over Mercy, has a Norah Jones -esque feel, and is already climbing the Indie music charts. The instrumental title track, which has a "roll down the windows and drive" feel, is a percussive pleasure driven by the hammered dulcimer.
Josephine was inspired to write the album track “House of Hope” after volunteering for the national organization of the same name. When her local House of Hope offered to host the release, it was a natural fit.
“Angela Josephine has been a good friend to House of Hope,” said Craig O'Connor, Director of Development. “Her heart for our ministry to young people is evident in the time she dedicates to House of Hope, and her warm interaction with our residents, staff and families. Angela's music speaks to the heart of our relationship with God and we are honored to partner with her.”
Josephine is also an advocate for Compassion International and presents their mission of releasing children from poverty. Earlier this year, Josephine spent a week in Peru serving and ministering to the needy. The experience was life-changing.
“It hits you at so many different levels and at unexpected times,” the musician comments. “I found myself crying in the shower shortly after I got back because I was suddenly aware of how precious something like hot water is and how there are so many people – people I now know - who do not have hot water, let alone any water at all.”
“Grace Exhaled” is Josephine's second CD, following up on her self-produced debut, “a restful sense of urgency.” The strong reviews and encouragement from the first CD provided the impetus for the even more ambitious follow-up.
“I used to have my conceptions about where I wanted to take my music,” Josephine said. “I am realizing more and more it is my music that is taking me. And anything beyond that… any good it does anyone… I pray have everything to do with God and nothing to do with Angela Josephine.”
Josephine plans on setting up a fall tour throughout the Midwest. She is available for women's retreats, camps, festivals, coffee houses and church concerts, bringing with her a unique blend of original poetry, art, stories and music.

ORTEGA, NORMAN AND GROVES CONCERT
Angela volunteered for Compassion at the Fernando Ortega, Bebo Norman, Sara Groves concert this past month in Gaylord. Over 30 children were sponsored through this event. Angela met Gabe Scott, a fellow Michigander who tours with Bebo. One of the many instruments he plays is the hammered dulcimer and they discovered that they both play Bob Tack instruments. It was a great night!
As part of a missions opportunity with Compassion International, Angela will be travelling to Peru between January 28th through February 8th. Angela will be visiting Compassion projects in Lima and Chiclayo, where she will lead worship and host 'Painting of the People-TM' as part of the missionary team visit. The team members will be working at the Chiclayo center, ministering through VBS, as well as building maintenance and other tasks.
