That’s a Wrap! Film Shoot for “Got You On My Mind” Completes

I spent the last week in May with the talented team at The Treefort Collective filming a music video for Got You On My Mind.  We descended upon Traverse City’s Wilson Antiques on Front Street and filmed during normal business hours which made for some interesting logistics.  There is a lot that goes into setting up a shot to make it just right as many scenes were reflected images.  I was able to stand back and watch the team work their magic and then step in to the scene to sing and play.  I’m so thankful to the guys for working in projected home movies of my family from the 50′s – 70′s, making it not only a beautiful work of art, but a meaningful piece as well. So grateful to Jane and the staff at Wilson’s for accommodating us, to the volunteer crew, Shawnna Linton for hair, Susan at Venus for Make-Up and my ever supportive husband Joe for keeping us well fed. Can’t wait to share the video! I’ll keep you posted on the details!

NEXT TOWN SQUARE

Great things are happenings at The Good Work Collective in Traverse City!  As part of the NEXT TOWN SQUARE community brainstorm project, artists have been in painting 4′ x 4′ panels.  I chose to do a Lake Michigan shoreline scene entitled “Echo the Shore”.  It’s for sale along with works by the other artists and part of the proceed will go to benefit the collective.

Northern Express at 30,000 ft.

Wouldn’t you know it?!  I was on vacation when the feature appeared in the Northern Express!  Thanks to the miracle of modern technology (and prompts from friends on Facebook) – my husband and I were able check it out at 30,000 ft.  If you didn’t get a chance to see it, here it is…  ART BEAT. Thanks again to Al Parker and the Northern Express for supporting local artists.

Anyone recognize this pop icon?

Very nice meeting Al Parker from Northern Express yesterday. He came to my studio for a features interview and asked about my early work.  I told him that I was more of a realist and wouldn’t you know it? I have proof! Pulled this watercolor out of the college archives. (Pretty sure I was scolded for ripping off the photograph this was painted from back in the day. Also pretty sure this is going to date me.) Anyone recognize this pop icon?

Points North IPR Interview

In case you missed it, here is the interview from 02/15/2013 that I did with Brad Aspey, Morning Edition Host of IPR’s Points North. Thanks to IPR for supporting independent music!

IPR Interview and GT Art Bomb – February 2013

Tomorrow I head to IPR to tape a segment for “Points North” with Brad Aspey.  I’ll be talking about “Stone Bright Solid” and playing a few tunes.  Will let you know when the air date will be for that show.

It was another explosion of art, music and dance at Right Brain Brewery for the encore performance of GT Art Bomb.  I had a great time performing and meeting lots of new folks.  My husband Joe shared the stage playing Cajon, chimes and we even incorporated a vintage Casio PT 1 Keyboard on the song “Ordinary Ways”.  Yeah – you heard correctly.  It was epic.

Art Bomb wraps up on March 2nd.  I’ll be there for the finale and this will be the day my paintings come down.  So get in for the last chance to see them on display.  I’m talking with some galleries in the area so will keep you up to date with where they will find a home next!

GT Art Bomb – January 2013

It all starts as I am talking to my friend Amber about WIMA Fest.

“Just do something cool and artsy like you do!”

I am trying to back out of creating live art during Courtney Kaiser-Sandler’s performance at the festival.   It has been a while since I have painted and the thought of creating on the spot, in front of a crowd, for the first time in ages –  well that triple-threat, boat-rocking action just makes me nauseous.

“Dammit man, I’m a musician not a culinary wizard!”

Tonight I was taming the 59-string beast and that always makes me work up an appetite.  I thought of all those pinned recipes I have drooled over on Pinterest, forgotten and waiting.  Anyone else guilty?  This seemed like the perfect opportunity to give something a shot.  In particular, I had been thinking about the Chia Seed Peanut Butter Cookies I had pinned earlier in the day.  They were calling to me.  (Besides I was feeling cheated by my son’s failed attempt at Oatmeal Lace Cookies earlier this week.)

To some this is a smashing success.

One of A Kind Gift Boxes For You!

Spent this evening by the fire, listening to Bing Crosby and creating CD gift sleeves from vintage music dictionary pages.  Kind of loving these and they are fun to make.  They are for another project coming up that I’ll share more about on Monday, but I thought I’d offer to make these for all orders in the next week.  (It’s quite a drag for me… sitting by the hearth, sipping Baileys and coffee, creating lovely gift sleeves… )  So order quickly before the Bailey’s runs out! ;)
